It’s not always easy to tell when your air conditioning system just needs a simple repair or if it may be time to consider a replacement. There are a number of reasons you may want to upgrade your system, however if you still have a few years of life left in your current system, this may not financially make much sense.
On the other hand, you don’t want to keep throwing money at an old and outdated system that isn’t working as efficiently as it should. If your air conditioner is showing troubling symptoms but you are unsure whether repair or replacement is the best option, then you should call on one of our professional HVAC technicians to take a look.
Could It Just Need Repairs?
Let’s say you have a broken down air conditioner. If it’s under 10 years old, doesn’t require frequent repairs, and it generally in good condition, then chances are that something repairable has gone wrong. And there is plenty that can go wrong with your AC during its lifespan!
For instance, your evaporator coil may get frozen over, or you may have leaky ductwork, or you could even have a refrigerant leak. Each of these problems can be taken care of by a professional.
When Replacement is the Better Choice
There are usually a number of factors that contribute to a decision to replace an air conditioning system. When we make a recommendation as to whether you should repair or replace, we look at factors such as age and the overall condition of the cooling system, in addition to the severity of the current problem at hand.
If the problem is with a major component and it’s not covered under a warranty, the expense to repair may not be worth it. It’s probably in your best interest in this case to replace the air conditioner entirely.

No matter what age your air conditioner is, you want to make sure that it’s always in good working order.
