Why Your Heat Pump Needs to Be Maintained Twice a Year

Many of our customers in the Wyckoff, NJ area enjoy using a heat pump system for their homes. These systems can be very convenient because they offer both heating and cooling. You may be aware that maintenance is required, but when you own a heat pump, annual maintenance is not enough. The heating and cooling pros at DB Heating & Cooling are here to help with all of your heat pump needs, including bi-annual maintenance. Why bi-annual? Let’s take a look.

The Same System

When you own a heat pump system, you are using a device that provides your home with both heating and cooling. This means a single device is working to provide all of your comfort. It also means that this single device works twice as hard as any separate heating or cooling system will, and as such, it will endure more stress and wear and tear. This is why it is so important to schedule maintenance for your heat pumps system every 6 months.

What Happens During a Maintenance Appointment

You can expect the maintenance appointment for your heat pump to have a number of tasks, but here is an overview of what will happen during the appointment:

  • Full inspection of both indoor and outdoor units
  • Check of all electrical connections
  • Check of air handler
  • Change air filter
  • Check refrigerant level
  • Check the capacitors
  • Clean components
  • Lubricate all moving parts
  • Conduct performance testing

The Benefits Maintenance Provides

There are good reasons these tasks are performed. First, they make your system more energy efficient because dust, dirt and wear and tear are taken care of, allowing your system to run optimally. Second, the thorough inspection helps your technician detect any developing issues and get ahead of them. Third, maintenance keeps your system in good working order.
